As a trainer Cody now represents 4 generations of trainers/horsemen. Over the past seven years, he has emerged as a prominent talent in racing, and his story is one of dedication, hard work, and a love of the horse.
Growing up on the large family farm he was actively involved in the private training facility, breeding operation and dry stock management. He also followed his family’s generational passion for polo. This solid foundation was further enriched during a stint with trainers Steven Ramsey and Julia Ritchie, who mentored him and contributed significantly to his journey.
But Cody's determination and dedication go beyond the world of horses.
In addition to his equine pursuits, he has also excelled in the discipline of Olympic Weightlifting. Between the ages of 14 to 24 he dedicated his life to the sport and pursuit of excellence, breaking all but one of the existing New Zealand records. This saw him travel extensively to compete, culminating in the honour of representing New Zealand at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
This background in elite athletics has instilled in him the discipline and work ethic that now defines his approach to horse training.
In the past season, Cody’s stable achieved a personal best of 23 winners, resulting in a strike rate of 6.91, placing him 8th on the Premiership by strike rate of those above him. This accomplishment reflects his dedication to training and has seen significant growth in the demand for his services.
